Despite its title, Pleasure & Pain (Blue Rock Records) isn't an Ohio Players album; it's the latest set from guitarist Dennis Jones, who marries his background in rock and funk bands to bluesy songs with good results. Jones is a charismatic singer and a strong writer whose songs are anything but off-the-rack. From the opening jump blues "Brand New Day," they boast hip arrangments with catchy movements. Shuffles in various tempos, minor key funk, ballads, and rockers such as the ZZ Top pastiche "Try Not To Lie" provide vehicles for memorable lyrics and Jones explosive guitar. The propulsive "Hot Sauce" is incendiary rock-a-boogie.” - Tom Hyslop
